Women and Society

According to the religious teaching of Upanishads, Purans and other religious texts. Women is considered as the influential and empowering force which can demolish or fight with all evilness. The above statement from the religious text showcased women as the fighter but in today’s modern world the society doesn’t identify women as the fighter or the empowering force. Women’s are being observed as the caretaker or housewife whose role is just to take care and feed the family. There are some stereotypes set by the society which clearly displays the narrow thinking of the society about the women. In India men are considered to be superior in every field and job which is not true. There are many women who has set themselves as an example and confuted the society. An ordinary Indian women who takes care of the family and handle it deliberately still has to face a lot of questions from the society for their work. This scenario is not only with housewife or the women who takes care of the family but it is also faced by the working women of the country. A working women is being questioned by the society about her work. Earlier, the women who work and earns money for her family are considered to be substandard according to the stereotypes set by the society. There are many problems faced by the women like one of the problem is dowry system where the money is demanded from the family members of the girl and if the money is not received then consequences are faced by the girl in order to receive the money. Another such problems is rejection during the birth time. In our country if boy is born in the ordinary family are declared as the successor of the family but if a girl is born it leads to a thinking about humiliation and fear “what will society say?” This attitude towards a girl needs to be changed as the girls born in the family are considered to be fulfilment according to religious beliefs but the question arises why the society is not conventionalized?

A women has to go through lots of intolerable beliefs of the society. While a working women has to face some factors at the workplace like the attitude of the men employers to a women employer and the reflective pleasure of men of being a male. And the narrow thinking that how can a women can compete with the men? Another issue faced by the home caretaker women is domestic violence by the mens. They have to face lot of troubles by the men. According to the data exhibited by the Wikipedia 70% of the women are the victim of domestic violence in India. The main causes of domestic violence is related to the family related issue or caste issues or the dowry system as mentioned earlier. As in the 21st century is contemplated as the ultra-modern period in which a women from the urban areas are on the loose from the society but the problems lies with the girls and women from the rural area racing the same stuff as earlier faced by the women. One more issue which need to be highlighted is Child marriage. In India child marriage was the tradition which was followed by the every person. If a girl reached at the puberty (aged around 8 to 11) then the girl is ready for the marriage as the norms were fastened by the society. The girl was forced to marry a men who was colossal to her age. This practice was opposed by many of the activists and it was also the most debatable topic at that time. But in our modern time the scenario is changing and a girl or a women have proven themselves as a self- sufficient or self-supporting. The women of this era can achieve all the heights which are achieved by the men’s in all fields. The beliefs and helplessness of women according to the men’s are changing. The perception of society about a women is ameliorating. According to me final conclusion about the society and women are improving due to quality values and education which has been taught and understood by the people.
